July 2, 2001 was the day I started my new job as Departmental Chief Accountant at the Los Angeles Housing Department and assumed the responsibility as the president of LAMAAA. It was really a challenge to manage two important positions at the same time. My predecessors, Anita Domingo and Mae Abeleda had inspired me to follow their footsteps to carry on the tradition of LAMAAA. Remembering what they have accomplished for the organization, I was determined to go ahead and just do it. With the support of all the officers, committee members and members of this prestigious organization, serving LAMAAA was a very exciting and rewarding experience for me.
The officers and committee members were very dedicated and worked hard as a team to achieve the goal of LAMAAA to provide professional development to its members. Experts from the City and outside the City were invited to speak at the monthly seminars and at the annual conference. Topics ranged from the City budget, taxes, finance, investments as well as accounting and auditing updates. LAMAAA members bonded at the picnic in Griffith Park and had a great time at the Valentines Party and the Christmas Party.
Membership in LAMAAA is the best value in town. For $10.00, the members get free meals while attending seminars on topics that help them grow professionally. We meet new and old friends from various departments. Candidates for job interviews mention LAMAAA seminars when asked about classes and training that they have attended. That shows that members really value the knowledge that they gained from attending the training and seminars.
I am very proud of LAMAAA and the dedicated people who administer its activities each year. In conclusion, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the following officers and Committee chairmen and members for a productive and successful administration:
